Evanston is a beautiful city located in Cook County about 12 miles north of Downtown Chicago. It is surrounded by Skokie to the west, Wilmette to the north, and Chicago to the south. The city of Evanston was built around Northwestern University, which was actually build and operating before Evanston had its name. Northwestern as well as the Garrett Biblical Institute was founded in 1851. The inaugural class at Northwestern began in 1855 and the city of Evanston was named in 1857 before being incorporated in 1863. Following the Civil War, Evanston witnessed a huge population boom in the 1860’s and 1870’s. During this time, the population of Evanston quadrupled while surrounding areas such as the village of North Evanston were annexed, increasing the size of the city. Since then, the population has been steadily increasing. In the 1920’s and 1930’s, Evanston experienced a population increase of 70 percent.

Today, Evanston is a thriving and prosperous place to live that offers all of the luxuries of living in a city while still maintaining its independence from the city of Chicago. Evanston is a central location for business as well as providing its residents with excellent public education through Evanston Township High School. Residents living in Evanston are lucky to be able to attend a school that has been recognized as a gold medal school under the U.S. News & World Report 2016 list of America’s best 500 schools while also being named the 13th best school in the state.
