Kitchen Renovation in Park Ridge, IL

Park Ridge is a commuter’s dream, just 14 miles northwest of downtown Chicago with easy access to O’Hare International Airport, Highways 290 and 90, and CTA and Metra trains. The original layout felt cramped and inefficient, with the refrigerator out of reach in the back hall and a hodge-podge of pantries and cabinets. Work areas were awkward, the dinette area was cramped, and access to the dining room difficult. Cabinets, counters and appliances were dated, counter space limited, and the whole area lacked any kind of flow.

The kitchen space needed restructuring and the job required a complete demolition down to the studs and subfloor. A total rework of all electrical and plumbing elements was needed in order to bring the refrigerator back into the kitchen and create more cooking space. To open up the area to the dining room, a wall section was removed and a micro-laminated beam added to support the new opening. The back hall was opened up and a pantry replaced the old refrigerator next to the side door. That door was then reframed to become a new patio entrance. Soffits were removed and the framing reworked so the Regency kitchen cabinets in Cinnamon Maple could be placed to the ceiling and ten recessed ceiling lights added, along with work-efficient undercabinet lighting. A Blanco double bowl stainless sink and Kohler Cruette Pulldown faucet were set in the Daltile Giallo Ornamental granite coutnertops, with a Regency custom window above. Floor and wall tiles were all Daltile, and the smart Forest Park Sugar Maple floor allows the look of wood with tile easy maintenance. The backsplash was set in a subway tile pattern in Rittenhouse Matte Almond and Laticrete Hot Cocoa grout, with a charming Dal Sol accent in Anaconda.
